Houston – January 4, 2017 – AccessESP has completed the second rigless electric submersible pump swap on an Alaska North Slope well originally completed in February 2014 with their Access375 wireline retrievable ESP system. The Access375 is the fourth-generation system, continuing in use today. The first pump change-out on this well was in October 2015 for the same reason; degraded performance due to abrasion.
The pump change-out was completed in just two days through a live well intervention using a slickline unit, lubricator, and crane. Surface diagnostics determined that the AccessESP permanent magnet motor was fully functional an did not require replacement, reducing operational time and costs.
This proactive pump replacement would be cost prohibitive using a workover rig on a well completed with a conventional ESP system. To replace the pump in a conventional ESP completion, the operator would have to mobilize a workover rig, kill the well, pull the tubing and the entire ESP system, replace the ESP, and rerun the tubing. The time, risk, and cost associated with the intervention and downtime inherent to this approach can be substantial.
